Viral list of restaurants serving donkey meat in Islamabad is fake

The list being shared on WhatsApp and social media that links certain Islamabad restaurants and cafes to serving donkey meat is completely false.

Over the weekend, the Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) carried out a raid in Tarnol and recovered more than 50 donkeys along with a large amount of meat.

Since the news broke, rumors have been circulating online about where the meat was possibly supplied.

However, on Monday, IFA Director Irfan Nawaz Memon clarified that investigators have yet to find any solid proof about the recipients of the meat.

He said there are unconfirmed claims suggesting that the meat might have been sent to foreign nationals living in the city, while some portions may have been transported out of Islamabad.

“We are working closely with the police, who are investigating all possible angles of the case,” Memon stated.

He also emphasized that food quality checks and surprise inspections of restaurants and eateries are routinely carried out in the capital.

“In the past two years, we haven’t received any similar complaints in Islamabad,” he said. “Our teams even conduct late-night inspections without any prior warning to make sure hygiene standards are being followed.”

The Food Authority has asked the public to come forward and report anything unusual related to meat distribution or food cleanliness.

Memon added that the health and safety of citizens remain the authority’s top concern, and further joint efforts with law enforcement are being planned to tackle such issues more effectively.
