Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz discharged from hospital after major surgery

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underwent a major surgical procedure at Sharif Medical City Hospital, which drew widespread concern and attention from party leaders and supporters.

Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb confirmed the development on social media, stating that the Chief Minister was admitted for what she called a “major operation.” However, officials did not share detailed medical information, citing patient privacy.

After the procedure, CM Maryam Nawaz was moved to recovery and later discharged from the hospital. She has been advised to rest following her release.

She remained involved in government affairs before the surgery on Eid-ul-Adha. According to Aurangzeb, she continued to oversee key provincial matters during the festive period, including security arrangements, cleanliness campaigns, and other administrative work, and at times reportedly monitored operations from the hospital.

The minister also said that the Chief Minister stayed in regular contact with senior officials throughout her treatment and remained updated on developments in Punjab.

The news of her surgery prompted concern and well-wishes from ministers, party members, and supporters, who prayed for her quick recovery.

Previously, the Punjab Chief Minister has also received medical treatment abroad on several occasions, mainly in the United Kingdom and Geneva for throat and gland-related health issues.

In Geneva, she underwent successful throat surgery in January 2023, where doctors operated on her throat glands in a procedure that lasted several hours. She had travelled from London and was reported stable after the operation before returning to Pakistan.

She has also visited Geneva for follow-up check-ups and treatment related to recurring throat or gland conditions, with continued specialist care reported in later years.
