150,000 Eid sacrifices in Islamabad as CDA launches massive cleanup drive

Islamabad saw a large-scale Eid-ul-Adha operation as over 150,000 small and large animals were sacrificed across the city during the first two days of Eid, according to official figures shared by the civic administration.

Following instructions from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, authorities carried out a city-wide cleanliness and waste removal drive to keep the capital clean during the Eid holidays.

During the first two days, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration collected and disposed of more than 2,511 tons of animal waste.

On the first day, around 65,000 small animals and 44,000 large animals were sacrificed, producing about 1,807 tons of waste. On the second day, more than 23,000 small and 17,000 large animals were sacrificed, adding another 703 tons of waste.

Sanitation teams from CDA Solid Waste Management and ICT remained active in the field throughout the operation. A central control room was set up at Islamabad Safe City to monitor cleanliness work in real time.

More than 2,000 sanitation workers took part in the drive, supported by over 200 vehicles and machinery to ensure the quick collection and disposal of waste.

To reduce smell and maintain hygiene, authorities used rose water, phenyl, lime, and water sprays at different dumping sites.

A total of 151 pits were dug at 89 locations for the safe disposal of offal to prevent environmental issues during the festival.

For public complaints, a helpline (1334) and WhatsApp number (0335-5001213) were also made available. Officials said many complaints were addressed without delay.

On the direction of the CDA Chairman, the cleanliness drive continued into the third day of Eid-ul-Adha to ensure complete sanitation across the city.

Residents appreciated the coordinated efforts of civic bodies in keeping Islamabad clean during the busy Eid period.
