Dense smog and fog to persist across plains of Pakistan

Smog and fog are expected to persist and intensify over the plains of Pakistan in the coming days, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Continental air is dominating most parts of the country. It is likely to continue, creating dense smog and fog in northeastern and southern Punjab, upper Sindh, and the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Cities likely to experience these conditions include Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Jhelum, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Multan, Khanewal, Layyah, Kot Addu, and Bahawalpur.

Similar conditions are predicted in Peshawar, Swabi, Mardan, Dera Ismail Khan, Sukkur, and Rohri, particularly during morning and night hours.

Authorities warned that smog and fog may disrupt transportation and reduce air quality, making it unhealthy for sensitive groups. The public is advised to take precautions when going outdoors.

Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed across Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and much of Pakistan over the last 24 hours, with extremely cold temperatures in hilly areas.

Skardu recorded the lowest temperature at 10°C below freezing, while Leh was -9°C, Gilgit -6°C, Ziarat -4°C, and Quetta, Kalat, Babusar, Gopis, and Astore at -3°C.

In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was 3°C with 92 percent morning humidity, and Rawalpindi recorded 7°C with 80 percent humidity.
