Xiaomi has introduced the Xiaomi 17, the first smartphone powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, marking a big step forward in performance and efficiency.
The phone also debuts a massive 7,000 mAh battery, faster charging speeds, and a refreshed design, putting it among the top flagship contenders of 2025.
Currently launched in China with a global release expected later, the Xiaomi 17 features a flat aluminum frame with an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
It comes with a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED screen offering 1,220 x 2,656 resolution, a refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz, and peak brightness of 3,500 nits.
The display is protected by Xiaomi’s Dragon Crystal Glass, surrounded by ultra-thin 1.18mm bezels for a nearly edge-to-edge look.
Security is handled by an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. Buyers will have four color options: black, white, blue, and pink.

Inside, the Xiaomi 17 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with a large 4,497mm² vapor chamber to keep performance stable under heavy use.
Memory options include 12GB or 16GB RAM, with storage of 256GB or 512GB. It runs on HyperOS 3, Xiaomi’s updated operating system, optimized for smooth performance and seamless integration with the Xiaomi ecosystem.
For photography, the phone packs a triple rear camera system: a 50MP main camera with the Light Hunter 950 sensor, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and a 50MP telephoto lens with 2.6x optical zoom.
The front camera has been upgraded to 50MP as well, promising sharper selfies in all lighting conditions.

The standout feature is its huge 7,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery, offering better efficiency with 16% silicon content. Charging is top-tier, with 100W wired, 50W wireless, and 22.5W reverse wireless charging.
In China, pricing starts at around $630 for the 12GB/256GB version, $672 for 12GB/512GB, and $700 for the 16GB/512GB model, though global prices will vary when the phone rolls out internationally.
