Sindh govt to launch ‘Pink Taxi’ service for women

The Sindh government is set to introduce a new “Pink Taxi” service for women, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari announced on Thursday.

Speaking at a ceremony in Karachi where free electric Pink Scooters were handed out to women, Bilawal said the upcoming service would provide female commuters with safer and more reliable transport.

“This is only the beginning,” he remarked. “Very soon, we will hold another event to introduce Pink Taxis for women.”

He noted that this step builds on Sindh’s earlier efforts, including the launch of electric buses and the Pink Bus service in Karachi, making it the first province to provide women-exclusive public transport.

At the event, Bilawal distributed keys of free Pink Scooters, highlighting that the initiative was designed to ease travel challenges for working women and female students.

He also pointed out that earlier in the week, the provincial government had rolled out the Benazir Hari Card scheme to support small farmers hit by floods.

Bilawal stressed that women’s empowerment is central to Sindh’s development plans, adding that Pakistan’s progress in any sector is not possible without their active role.
