KP govt announces new invigilation plan for matric exams

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to bring in fresh graduates to help supervise the upcoming matric exams so that teachers can stay focused on teaching in classrooms.

According to the Elementary and Secondary Education Department, the exams starting from March 30 will have invigilation staff made up of 50 percent graduates and 50 percent teachers. This change is meant to reduce the time students in government schools are left unattended when teachers are assigned exam duties.

Secretary of Elementary and Secondary Education Mohammad Khalid said the move will help avoid disruptions in regular classes, which used to happen when teachers had to leave for exam supervision.

To manage the process, the Peshawar Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education introduced an app where graduates could apply and submit their documents. Around 6,200 candidates applied, out of which 1,250 were selected through a computerized draw. Applicants were required to submit a character certificate from their college or university.

Board Controller Inamullah Shah shared that selected graduates were given proper training to prepare them for their responsibilities inside exam halls. Each graduate will receive Rs1,500 per paper and may earn up to Rs 30,000 during the exam period.

Officials including principals and vice principals, have been assigned as focal persons in different districts to verify documents and check the physical fitness of selected candidates. Any irregularities will be reported, and strict action, including FIRs, will be taken against those found involved in misconduct.

This initiative is being introduced for the first time in KP. It not only allows teachers to remain in classrooms but also gives unemployed graduates a chance to earn and gain practical experience during the examination period.
