Federal govt declares public holiday on December 26

The federal government has declared a public holiday for federal offices in the Islamabad Capital Territory on Friday, December 26, after withdrawing an earlier announcement.

A notification issued by the Cabinet Division on December 25 stated that all federal offices, including the Pakistan Secretariat and other federal institutions in the capital, will remain closed on December 26.

The notification replaces a clarification released a day earlier. It added that essential services such as hospitals, banks, the Metropolitan Corporation, Islamabad, Capital Development Authority, ICT Administration, ICT Polic,e IESCO, and SNGPL will continue their operations.

Earlier on December 24, the Cabinet Division had announced that December 26 would be a working day for federal offices and institutions, which had ended expectations of a holiday after December 25.

The new notification cancels that clarification and officially declares December 26 as a holiday for federal offices in Islamabad. The Cabinet Division also instructed that the announcement be widely publicized through print and electronic media.
