Lahore Ring Road announces new traffic fines

Authorities have revised traffic fines on Lahore’s Ring Road, increasing penalties for several violations, including driving without a licence, overspeeding, underage driving and entering roads from the wrong direction.

Under the new fine schedule, driving without a valid licence will cost Rs5,000, compared to the previous fine of Rs500. Wrong overtaking will carry a penalty of Rs5,000 for cars, while drivers of vehicles with engine capacities above 2,000cc will have to pay Rs10,000.

Other violations have also become more expensive. Driving in the wrong lane will result in a fine of Rs2,000, while entering a one-way road from the wrong direction will cost Rs5,000.

The fine for smoke-emitting vehicles has been set at Rs4,000 for cars and Rs5,000 for commercial vehicles. Overloading will now carry a penalty of Rs7,000, up from Rs2,000. Meanwhile, the fine for illegal parking has doubled from Rs1,000 to Rs2,000.

Drivers under the legal age will face a fine of Rs10,000 under the revised rules. Motorists using black tinted paper on vehicle windows or driving vehicles with missing or non-standard number plates will be fined Rs5,000. Motorcycles entering Lahore’s Ring Road will also face a penalty of Rs5,000.

The revised schedule also covers pedestrians and animal owners. The fine for pedestrians crossing the Ring Road has increased from Rs200 to Rs1,000. Owners who bring animals onto the road will be fined Rs5,000.

Authorities have also raised penalties for overspeeding. Drivers of vehicles with engine capacities of up to 2,000cc will face a fine of Rs5,000, while those driving vehicles above 2,000cc will have to pay Rs10,000.

Using a mobile phone while driving and failing to wear a seat belt will each carry a fine of Rs3,000. Previously, the penalty for both violations was Rs500.

The revised fines cover a range of traffic offences on Lahore’s Ring Road, placing a greater financial burden on motorists who fail to follow the rules.

Drivers are advised to observe speed limits, use the correct lanes, follow traffic regulations and ensure their vehicles meet legal requirements to avoid penalties and help make roads safer.
