No more parking charges on public roads in Karachi

KARACHI: The Sindh government has officially ended the practice of charging parking fees on public roads across all 25 towns of Karachi, turning Mayor Murtaza Wahab’s vision of free parking into action.

According to details, a notification issued by the Local Government Department has enforced a complete ban on paid parking on public streets within city limits.

From now on, parking fees will only apply at designated parking plazas, private properties, or areas directly overseen by municipal authorities.

All town municipal corporations have been instructed to implement this directive immediately. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) had already stopped collecting parking charges from its roads, and the new order extends this to the rest of the city.

To ensure proper execution of the policy, a campaign has been launched, and authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found charging illegal parking fees. The directive was issued under instructions from the Chief Minister of Sindh.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab explained that the step has been taken purely in the public’s interest. Municipal commissioners have been directed to enforce the decision without exception, with the government warning of disciplinary consequences for any violations.
