Sindh govt announces Rs8.53 billion package for Karachi roads

The Government of Sindh has approved Rs8.53 billion for the repair and carpeting of roads in Karachi.

The decision was made at a cabinet meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. The cabinet backed proposals put forward by Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, which had already been cleared by the finance committee.

Along with road development funds, the cabinet sanctioned several other financial measures. It approved Rs7 billion in compensation for those affected by the Gul Plaza fire incident. An amount of Rs1.57 billion was allocated for the preservation of a historic building on I.I. Chundrigar Road.

A grant of Rs5.20 billion was approved for the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. The cabinet also set aside Rs560 million for the Sindh Police to support operations in riverine areas. In addition, Rs900 million was approved under Phase II of the People’s IT Program and youth training initiative.

During the meeting, the chief minister directed officials to maintain strict price control during the holy month of Ramadan. He instructed assistant commissioners to stay active in the field and ensure that essential commodities are sold at officially notified rates.
