Karachi’s long-standing issues of wrong parking and messy traffic have pushed authorities to introduce a new kind of traffic enforcement on the roads.
High-tech patrol cars fitted with automated cameras are now silently moving through the city, spotting no-parking violations and issuing e-challans on the spot, leaving almost no chance for offenders to slip away.
According to traffic officials, the system is fully prepared for rollout, with the first phase covering the busy commercial zones of Saddar and Tariq Road, which are known for their constant congestion and illegal parking.
These vehicles, operated by a driver, move slowly at about 20 km/h while scanning the streets in real time, instantly generating challans for any car or motorcycle found double-parked or stopped in a prohibited area.
Officials said this step builds on the current practice of issuing parking fines through Safe City cameras. Still, with these mobile “robot camera cars,” enforcement will now be more active, persistent, and much harder for violators to avoid.
