Extreme air pollution hits Karachi amid fog and dusty conditions

KARACHI: Karachi is experiencing dry, cool, and dusty conditions today, with cold and foggy weather in the morning and at night, while temperatures remain warm during the day, according to the Met Office.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 18 Celsius, while the maximum is expected to range between 28 and 30 Celsius, with humidity at 90 percent, the Met Office reported.

Northeastern winds are blowing at four kilometers per hour, and visibility is limited to 97 meters as fog continues to cover the city.

Karachi’s air quality remains extremely unhealthy, ranking third among the most polluted cities in the world on the air quality index today. Air pollution was measured at 228 particulate matter.

The Commission for Air Quality Management stated that the decline in air quality is driven by high moisture and a shift in wind direction, conditions that prevent pollutants from dispersing and contribute to the formation of smog.
