The Sindh government has declared June 25 and 26, Thursday and Friday, as public holidays across the province in observance of Ashura, according to the Sindh Information Department.
A notification issued on Monday stated, “The Government of Sindh hereby declares June 25 and 26, 2026, as public holidays throughout the province on the occasion of Ashura, Muharram 9 and 10, 1448 AH.”
Under the announcement, all government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils working under the administrative control of the Sindh government will remain closed on both days. However, institutions providing essential services will continue to operate.
Earlier this month, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed authorities to make comprehensive arrangements for Muharram, with a strong focus on security for processions and majalis across the province. He also instructed officials to ensure uninterrupted civic services throughout the holy month.
The chief minister said maintaining law and order and facilitating mourners remained the government’s top priority. He warned that any negligence or shortcomings in the arrangements would not be accepted.

While reviewing security and administrative preparations, CM Shah asked all concerned departments to stay on high alert and maintain close coordination with one another. He also directed officials to include recommendations from religious scholars in the final Muharram plan.
In addition, he instructed K-Electric, HESCO and SEPCO to ensure an uninterrupted power supply during religious gatherings and avoid load-shedding on procession routes.
Emphasising religious harmony and unity among different sects, the chief minister urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure the peaceful observance of Muharram. He said the government would use every available resource to protect lives and property across the province during the sacred month.
