Dhabeji pumping station failure disrupts water to several areas

KARACHI: A 72-inch-diameter water pipeline burst at the Dhabeji Pumping Station following a power failure, disrupting water supply to several areas of the city.

The rupture occurred after a power outage shut down four pumps at the pumping station, affecting Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation’s pipeline number 5 once again.

Sources said the pipeline has burst for the fourth time in the past two weeks, blaming the repeated incidents on the use of substandard materials during earlier repair work.

A spokesperson for the water corporation said the repair work will be completed within 24 hours, and the water supply will be restored.

Residents continue to face frequent water shortages due to the lack of a stable power supply to the city’s critical water infrastructure.
