Punjab govt receives 87 electric buses from China

The Punjab government has received 87 air-conditioned electric buses from China, marking a major step toward launching eco-friendly and affordable public transport in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Officials said the service will cover 84 kilometers across the twin cities, offering passengers modern facilities such as Wi-Fi, GPS tracking, and mobile charging ports for a comfortable and connected commute.

Under the new plan, senior citizens aged 60 and above will be able to travel free of cost, while the standard fare has been set at Rs20 per ticket.

PML-N Rawalpindi Division President Malik Abrar Ahmed said the fleet will operate on four routes, introduced in phases. The first route will connect Rawat to Motorway Chowk, providing a safe, reliable, and energy-efficient transport option for residents.

The project’s launch, originally planned for October 15, was delayed due to unrest by Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) in Punjab. Authorities confirmed that the inauguration will take place soon after the situation stabilizes.
