Over 2,500 telecom towers go offline in Sindh during heavy rainfall

Heavy rains across Sindh, especially in Karachi, caused major disruption to telecommunications, leaving thousands of mobile users without service.

According to sources in the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), more than 2,500 towers went offline during the storm.

Restoration efforts began immediately, with 1,800 towers brought back online within 24 hours, and officials confirmed that mobile and internet services have been restored in most parts of Karachi.

The outages were mainly caused by power breakdowns and damage to equipment. PTA has instructed local authorities to ensure an uninterrupted power supply to tower sites to avoid extended disruptions.

“PTA teams are still working on remaining towers to fully restore service across Sindh,” the sources said, adding that the regulator is closely coordinating with local administrations to speed up recovery.
