Punjab flood alert issued as rains expected to continue

LAHORE: Punjab is on high alert as the latest spell of heavy monsoon rains is expected to sweep across the province, with flood warnings in place until July 25.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority has forecast widespread showers across most districts, saying this spell will likely be stronger than the previous ones and may continue throughout the week.

Officials warn that the heavy rain could raise water levels in the upper catchments of major rivers, increasing the risk of flooding in several areas.

Advisories have been issued for rivers and streams across the province, especially the Ravi, Jhelum, Sutlej, and Chenab, where the threat is more serious.

To manage the situation, the PDMA chief has directed Deputy Commissioners to remain present in the field and enforce Section 144 near riverbanks and streams.

Punjab Police have also been instructed to increase patrols in high-risk zones to help prevent any emergencies.
