Pakistan Railways revises departure times for three trains

Pakistan Railways has revised the departure times for three passenger trains running from Lahore to Karachi.

As per the updated schedule, the Business Express will now leave Lahore at 6:30 in the evening instead of the earlier 4:30. The Karachi Express, which previously departed at 6:00 PM, is now set to leave at 8:00 PM.

The Shah Hussain Express has also been delayed, with its new departure time shifted to 10:15 PM, more than an hour later than its former 9:00 PM slot.

These changes have come shortly after Pakistan Railways raised passenger fares by 2 percent following a surge in diesel prices.

Freight rates have also been affected. Charges for coal transportation have gone up by 3 percent, while fertilizer transport costs have increased by 2 percent. Diesel prices have jumped by Rs11.37 per liter, adding significant pressure on the railway’s budget.

Officials say this price hike is causing an additional fuel expense of Rs3.99 million every day, raising the monthly cost to nearly Rs119.5 million.
