Sugar prices down Rs10 per kg in Karachi

Sugar prices have seen a noticeable drop in Karachi over the past week, with wholesale rates decreasing by Rs 10 and settling at Rs174 per kilogram. In retail markets across the city, prices are now being estimated between Rs180 and Rs185 per kilogram.

Meanwhile, the situation in Punjab remains tense, as the province deals with a sugar crisis sparked by disagreements among sugar mills, wholesalers, and brokers over newly announced official rates.

The federal government has fixed the mill price at Rs165 per kilogram and the retail price at Rs173. However, sugar dealers argue that mills are not following this pricing and are instead selling at Rs176 per kilogram.

Due to this pricing dispute, sugar deliveries in Punjab have come to a stop, pushing prices in some areas up to Rs200 per kilogram.

Dealers have made it clear that supplies will remain suspended unless the mills comply with the government’s pricing directives.
