The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has completed a major plan aimed at easing traffic by restoring more than 26 important roads across different parts of the city.
This proposal will now be sent to the provincial government for approval under the Special Karachi Development Grant.
A meeting was held at the KMC Head Office, chaired by Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, where officials went over the main development projects.
During the meeting, they agreed to finalize the shortlisted schemes and forward them so that work can start as soon as funds are released.
The rehabilitation plan focuses on some of Karachi’s busiest and most neglected routes. These roads handle heavy daily traffic but have worn out due to years of overload and lack of upkeep. The KMC estimates that the repair work across the districts will require Rs5.5 billion.
In District Central, the plan covers roads such as Hashim Raza Road, Shahrah e Usman, Al Amna Avenue, and the link from Shahrah e Usman to Shahrah e Noor Jahan. District West includes Orangi Link Road, Gulshan e Ghazi, 19 D Road, and roads within Faqir Colony.
District East will see work on Sehba Akhtar Road, Sardar Usman Ali Sabri Road, and Nash Kazmi Road. District South is set for improvements on Garden Road, Mirza Adam Road, and Sarwar Shaheed Road, while District Korangi’s upgrades include Jinnah Square Road and Liaquat Market Road.
In District Malir, the plan covers Khokar Par Road, roads near the Mehran Depot, and other important connecting routes.
