Lahore, Punjab weather update: Rain with thunder expected in upper areas

LAHORE: Light rain is expected in Lahore and several parts of Punjab on Friday night, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The forecast says a weak westerly system is present over Kashmir and nearby areas, while a seasonal low is centered in North Balochistan.

Under these conditions, rain with wind and thunder is likely in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Wazirabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Jhelum, Chakwal, and adjoining areas tonight.

For Saturday and Sunday, the weather in most plain districts of Punjab will remain mainly hot and dry, with Lahore’s temperature expected to range between 37°C and 39°C.

In the last 24 hours, hot and humid conditions prevailed across Punjab, though scattered rain and thunderstorms occurred in some upper districts.

Rainfall was recorded at 70mm in Sargodha (City), 9mm in Murree, 8mm in Mangla and Gujrat, 7mm in Joharabad and Layyah, and 5mm in Mandi Bahauddin, Faisalabad, and Noor Pur Thal.

Bahawalpur remained the hottest city with 40°C, followed by Sargodha at 39°C. Lahore recorded a maximum of 37°C with evening humidity at 72 percent.
