Federal govt announces nine-day winter holidays for schools

The federal government has announced winter vacations for institutions operating under the Federal Directorate of Education, granting a nine day break for students and staff.

As per the notification issued by the FDE, all schools and colleges under its authority will remain closed from December 26, 2025, to January 3, 2026. This decision applies to Islamabad Model Schools and Colleges as well as former FG Colleges in both urban and rural areas of the capital.

Classes and academic activities will restart on Monday, January 5, 2026. The notification also mentioned that Saturday, January 10, 2026, will be treated as a working day for teaching, non teaching, and administrative staff to complete important official tasks.

Separately, the Sindh government has announced public holidays for the Christian community. According to an official notification, December 25 will be observed as a public holiday on the occasion of Quaid e Azam Day and Christmas. In addition, Christian employees will be granted a partial holiday on December 26.

The Sindh government stated that all government, autonomous, and semi autonomous institutions, corporations, and local councils under its control will remain closed on the declared holiday, except for departments providing essential services. Copies of the notification have been shared with relevant federal and provincial offices for implementation.
