The School Education Department of Punjab has finalized a new schedule for school timings during the winter season, according to a report on Saturday.
A summary of the proposed timings has been sent to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for final approval.
Under the new schedule, all schools will operate from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm, with Saturday declared as the routine weekly holiday. Once approved, the new timings will take effect from October 20, 2025.
Earlier, on October 16, confusion spread across Punjab’s education system after conflicting announcements regarding winter school timings left teachers, students, and parents unsure about the new schedule.
Several District Education Authorities (DEAs) had individually issued notifications announcing revised winter timings for schools, specifying new reporting hours for students and teachers.
However, by evening, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat clarified on social media that the School Education Department (SED) had not issued any official notification about winter timings.
His statement caused widespread uncertainty, as district administrations had already circulated their own schedules to schools and staff.
Many teachers and parents were left questioning whether the district-issued notifications were still valid or had been superseded by the minister’s clarification.
