PMD predicts heavy rainfall across Pakistan

The Met Office has issued a monsoon alert for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Kashmir, warning of heavy rainfall, cloudbursts, and possible flooding in rivers.

According to the forecast, districts including Mardan, Shangla, Buner, Swat, Mansehra, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Battagram, Kohistan, and parts of Kashmir such as Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, and Rawalakot are likely to experience intense rain accompanied by thunderstorms.

The Punjab PDMA has cautioned about potential flooding in rivers between August 17 and 23, with widespread heavy showers and possible cloudbursts expected in upper Punjab.

Meanwhile, the PMD has also forecast heavy rains for Sindh and Balochistan, raising concerns of flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.

Authorities have advised tourists to postpone trips to mountainous regions, while local administrations have been directed to remain on high alert.

In addition, a rain emergency has already been declared in Islamabad and Rawalpindi after recent downpours.
