LAHORE: Several key motorways across Pakistan have been shut to traffic after dense fog reduced visibility to dangerous levels, officials confirmed on Monday.
According to Motorway Police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmad, the closures include the M-2 connecting Lahore and Islamabad, the M-3 from Faizpur to Rajana, and the M-4 between Gojra and Multan. The M-5 motorway, which links Multan to Zahir Pir, has also been closed as thick fog continues to disrupt travel.
Authorities said the decision was taken to protect motorists and reduce the risk of accidents amid the hazardous weather.
Foggy conditions are not limited to motorways alone. Several sections of the National Highway are also affected, with areas such as Manga Mandi, Pattoki, Okara, and Sahiwal facing poor visibility. Other locations, including Kasowal, Iqbal Nagar, Chichawatni, and Mian Channu, remain under heavy fog.
In southern Punjab, dense fog has gripped cities like Khanewal, Multan, Basti Mooluk, Lodhran, and Bahawalpur. Similar conditions have been reported in Ahmadpur Sharqia, Rahim Yar Khan, and Sadiqabad, making travel difficult across much of the region.
Motorway Police have advised drivers to avoid unnecessary travel, use alternate routes where possible, and remain extra cautious while driving in fog-affected areas.
