Punjab to launch 101 green buses in nine more districts

The Punjab government is set to introduce 101 new Green Buses in nine more districts by the end of July, expanding access to modern public transport across the province.

The buses will start operating in Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Multan, Vehari, Kasur, Lodhran, Nankana Sahib, and Narowal. These districts will receive modern public transport services for the first time.

The initiative is aimed at providing residents with safe, affordable, and quality transportation, with particular attention to the needs of women and students.

To support the expansion, the provincial government is also building modern bus stations, passenger shelters, and maintenance facilities to ensure smooth operations and improve the overall travel experience.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday shared the government’s broader plan to strengthen the public transport system across the province. She said 1,100 buses will be in operation by the end of August, extending transport services to districts and tehsils that have long been without reliable public transit.

She further said another 1,500 buses will be added during the current year, while the government plans to expand the fleet to nearly 3,000 buses over the next three years.

The chief minister also highlighted the long-term goal of increasing Punjab’s public transport fleet to at least 5,000 buses within the next five years.
