Imran Khan’s life in danger in jail, claims Aleema Khan

RAWALPINDI: Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, expressed serious concern over her brother’s safety in custody and said the matter would be taken to the Supreme Court.

Speaking to reporters outside the Anti-Terrorism Court, Aleema claimed that both Imran Khan and her nephew were being detained unlawfully.

“Our brother and nephew are being held in unlawful detention,” she said, stressing their focus remains on securing the release of those wrongly imprisoned.

She assumed that the former prime minister had been placed in solitary confinement and denied access to both newspapers and television.

“Newspapers and TV have been cut off and he has been placed in solitary imprisonment,” she said to the reporters, condemning prison officials for ignoring basic rights. “The jail supervisor is lying, my brother does not lie,” she added.

Aleema also accused the authorities of targeting Bushra Bibi as a way to pressure Imran Khan.

“Efforts are being made to break the PTI founder by taking action against Bushra Bibi,” she stated, placing the blame on Punjab’s chief minister. “Maryam Nawaz has sent this manager to impose injustice on the PTI founder.”

Quoting her brother’s message, she said, “The founder of PTI says he will hold talks for the sake of the nation, not for a personal deal.” She also conveyed that he had urged an end to personal conflicts and called for a national movement.

She emphasized that the situation Imran Khan is facing is serious and urged party members to raise their voice. “The PTI founder is in a difficult situation; the party must speak up on it,” she said.

Calling for public action, Aleema noted, “We are all victims of inflation; now the public must come out themselves.” She urged people to take a stand against what she called a system built on injustice.

Imran Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023 and faces several cases, including charges of corruption and terrorism, after being removed from office through a no-confidence motion in April 2022.

After meeting with her brother, Aleema shared his message: “My access to TV and newspapers has been cut off, and human rights are being violated.”

She said Imran Khan had asked lawmakers to decide their political path and grounds for future talks. “Just listen to the founder’s cases, and the matter will be resolved,” Aleema said.
