Heavy rain alert issued for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Sept 16–19

PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a weather advisory after the Met Department predicted rain, wind, and thunderstorms from September 16 to 19 in the province’s upper districts.

The alert warns that heavy showers could trigger flash floods in streams, urban flooding, and landslides in hilly areas. The districts most at risk include Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, and Mardan.

Authorities have also cautioned that strong winds and storms may damage fragile infrastructure such as electric poles, billboards, and solar panels.

District administrations have been directed to take precautionary steps, keep drainage channels clear, and ensure emergency services remain on standby.

The public has been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from rivers and nullahs, and cooperate with local authorities. In case of an emergency, citizens can call PDMA’s 24/7 helpline 1700.
