Karachi faces temporary water shortage due to K-electric maintenance

Karachi residents have been advised to use water carefully as K-Electric’s annual maintenance work at the Valika Grid Station is set to disrupt operations at the Hub Pumping Station, leading to a reduction in the city’s water supply.

A spokesperson for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation confirmed that K-Electric has planned maintenance on Sunday, December 14, from 9 am to 7 pm. During this time, the Hub Pumping Station will remain completely shut.

Officials said the shutdown will reduce the daily water supply by about 40 million gallons, with West Karachi and Sher Shah expected to be the most affected areas.

Under normal conditions, the city receives nearly 650 million gallons of water each day. During the maintenance period, around 450 million gallons will continue to be supplied.

KW&SC urged residents to manage their water usage responsibly, avoid unnecessary wastage, and plan household needs until the Hub Pumping Station returns to normal operation.

The temporary disruption is linked to K-Electric’s yearly maintenance work aimed at improving the stability and reliability of the city’s power system, which plays a key role in maintaining regular water supply across Karachi.
