Massive fire destroys over 70 stalls near Lighthouse in Karachi

A massive fire on Thursday destroyed over 70 temporary shops and stalls near the drain close to Lighthouse Lady Dufferin Hospital. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

The blaze broke out suddenly and spread rapidly to dozens of stalls selling winter items, including sweaters, jackets, mufflers, blankets, socks, shoes, and sandals.

Many shopkeepers had purchased their stock on credit from Shershah and planned to repay it after sales, but the fire turned all their goods into ashes.

Police, rescue teams, and firefighters from 1122 and the KMC Fire Brigade reached the scene. Due to the narrow lanes and the intensity of the fire, multiple fire tenders were called in. After about 45 minutes of effort, the fire was finally brought under control.

Fire Officer Zafar Khan stated that a short circuit is believed to be the probable cause, although the exact reason remains under investigation. Shopkeepers have appealed to the Sindh government for compensation for their losses.
