TLP protests disrupt traffic across Karachi amid Section 144 ban

Supporters of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) held protests at several locations across Karachi on Monday, disrupting traffic and causing difficulties for commuters.

TLP workers gathered at Nala Stop and North Karachi’s 4K Chowrangi, where they blocked roads and threw stones, damaging several vehicles.

The demonstrations brought traffic to a halt, leaving many motorists stuck for hours. Police were deployed to the affected areas to control the situation and disperse the protesters.

Earlier, the Sindh government had imposed a one-month ban on protests, rallies, sit-ins, and public gatherings across the province. Citing the law and order situation, authorities invoked Section 144, which prohibits gatherings of more than five people.

The move came on the recommendation of Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, who, after reviewing reports from various police zones, urged immediate steps to maintain peace.

According to the official notification, the ban takes effect immediately and will remain in place for one month. It further states that any violation of the order will allow the concerned Station House Officer (SHO) to register a case under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
