Karachi is expected to receive its first notable spell of rain in several days, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting thunderstorms and light rain across the city from Monday, September 14.
The latest forecast says a monsoon low-pressure system over the northwest Bay of Bengal and nearby areas of the Odisha coast is moving westward and is likely to affect weather conditions in Sindh.
The PMD has predicted thunderstorms and light rain in Karachi Division from September 14 to 16, with showers expected at intervals. The weather system could also bring dust storms, thunderstorms and rainfall to other parts of Sindh.
Between September 13 and 16, areas including Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal and Tando Muhammad Khan may receive rain, with some areas likely to experience moderate to isolated heavy showers. Sanghar, Khairpur, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Shaheed Benazirabad and Jamshoro are also expected to receive light to moderate rain from September 14 to 16.
Before the rain begins, Karachi is likely to remain hot and humid. The PMD has forecast maximum temperatures between 34°C and 37°C over the next couple of days, along with high humidity.

The Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also issued an advisory in preparation for the expected rainfall from September 13 to 16. Relevant departments, district administrations and emergency services have been directed to stay prepared.
Sindh Chief Minister’s Adviser Gyan Chand Essrani has instructed the PDMA and Sindh Emergency Rescue Service 1122 to remain on high alert. Deputy commissioners and other concerned departments have also been asked to keep staff and machinery ready, especially in areas where heavy rainfall is possible.
The expected weather system could bring some relief from Karachi’s continuing hot and humid conditions, with intermittent showers and thunderstorms forecast through September 16. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid unnecessary travel in areas affected by strong winds or accumulated rainwater.
