The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has increased water and sewerage charges by 7.05% for residential and bulk consumers, adding to the financial pressure on residents already facing complaints over inadequate water supply in several parts of the city.
The Sindh government officially notified the increase through the Gazette on August 10, 2026, following approval from the KWSC Board of Directors for revised retail and bulk tariffs. According to the corporation, the new rates were revised based on the average Consumer Price Index.
This is the second significant tariff increase by the KWSC in the past two years. In September 2024, the corporation had raised monthly charges by around 23%. At that time, sewerage charges were fixed at 9% of the applicable water charges.

Under the new tariff structure, monthly water and sewerage bills for residential properties will be determined based on plot size. The KWSC has also introduced fixed monthly charges for various commercial establishments and shops.
The latest increase has faced criticism from residents who depend on private water tankers due to limited piped water supply in many areas. KWSC officials, however, said the revised tariffs would help improve the corporation’s revenue base and ensure sustainable funding for water supply, sewerage services, maintenance and rehabilitation work.
