The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has predicted that the first day of Ramadan is expected to fall on February 19, 2026, according to astronomical estimates.
Suparco said the new moon is expected to be born on February 17, 2026, at 5:01pm. By sunset on February 18, the moon’s age is likely to be around 25 hours and 48 minutes.
The duration between sunset and moonset is estimated to be nearly 59 minutes in coastal regions of the country, which improves the chances of the moon being visible.
Based on these calculations, the agency suggested that Ramadan may begin on February 19, 2026.
However, Suparco explained that the final announcement regarding the start of the holy month will be made by the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, which is responsible for confirming moon sighting through verified testimonies from different parts of the country.
Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department also stated that there is a reasonable chance of sighting the Ramadan moon on the evening of February 18.
The department further said that weather conditions across most areas of the country are expected to remain partly cloudy or clear, which may help in moon sighting.
