Punjab govt bans 10 unsafe medicines

Punjab authorities have enforced an immediate ban on the sale of 10 low-quality medicines across the province, according to a report on Friday.

The Director-General of the Drug Control Programme has sent an alert to field drug inspectors, instructing them to strictly enforce the ban on these medicines.

Reports state that a specific batch of Escitalopram, which is used to lower the chances of heart attacks, has been labelled unsafe. Allergy medicines Sepizine and Rosin have also been prohibited. Canadiens cream, which is commonly used to treat skin infections, has been declared dangerous to health.

In addition, eye drops known as Nafin have been banned. Sterile Water for Injection PSOL 2 ml has also been marked as unfit for use. Authorities have further declared injections Metrorise, Metrine, and Cetamin unsafe.

The DG has instructed inspectors to remove all available stock of these medicines from pharmacies immediately.
