LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flood warning as another spell of monsoon rains is expected to start tomorrow (Wednesday).
According to the Met Office, rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is likely in northeastern Punjab and the Potohar region.
The PDMA has warned of a medium-level flood in the Chenab River along with its drains and tributaries.
An advisory has been sent to the commissioners of Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, and Multan divisions, as well as the district administrations of Narowal, Gujrat, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Jhang, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Wazirabad, and other areas.
The Director General of PDMA has instructed all relevant departments to take necessary measures to deal with any emergency. The public has also been urged to stay cautious and avoid going near rivers, canals, and drains.
Meanwhile, India has released water into the Sutlej River from the Pong Dam built over the River Beas, prompting PDMA to issue an alert about possible flooding in the rivers.
Alerts have also been issued for potential flooding in the Sutlej, Ravi, and Jhelum rivers, as well as their linked drains and tributaries, ahead of the fresh monsoon spell from August 13.
The new spell is expected to raise water levels in major rivers across Punjab, a PDMA spokesperson said.
