The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore has decided to introduce a biometric verification system to curb cheating during examinations. The step is aimed at increasing transparency and stopping cases of impersonation at exam centres.
Officials said the system will verify thousands of students through biometric authentication. In the initial phase, it will be introduced at more than 30 examination centres.
According to board officials, students will complete the biometric verification on the first day of the examination. Their identity and attendance will be confirmed before they are allowed to enter the exam hall. This will ensure that only registered candidates are able to appear in the exams.
Sources said nearly 6,000 students will go through biometric verification in the first phase. The board will run the initiative as a pilot project to assess how effective the system is.
If the pilot phase proves successful, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore plans to expand biometric verification to more exam centres in upcoming examination sessions.
Education experts believe the move is part of wider efforts to improve monitoring of examinations across Punjab. They say biometric technology can play an important role in strengthening accountability in the examination process.
Board officials said preventing cheating remains their main priority. They believe the biometric system will help provide a fair and transparent environment for students appearing in exams.
The initiative is seen as a significant step toward improving the credibility of the examination system and restoring public trust.
