More schools in Punjab to stay closed amid cold wave

The Punjab government has announced an extension of winter vacations for all non-formal education schools in the province due to severe weather conditions.

According to a notification issued by the Directorate General of Literacy and Non-Formal Basic Education, these schools will remain closed until January 17, 2026, and classes will resume on January 19, 2026.

The order applies to all non-formal education institutions across Punjab, and officials have been instructed to ensure full compliance.

The notification also clarified that field staff will continue to carry out their official duties during the winter break and will not be excused from their responsibilities.

Issued from Lahore, the document was circulated to deputy commissioners, chief executive officers of district education authorities, district education officers for literacy, and senior officials of the literacy and non-formal education department for implementation.

The decision comes in view of ongoing cold weather across the province and aims to allow administrative work to continue while temporarily suspending classroom activities in the non-formal education sector.
