Punjab launches skills training program for prisoners

The Punjab government has launched a new skills development program in prisons aimed at providing inmates with technical training and certifications.

An agreement was signed between the Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC) and the Prisons Department to roll out the initiative.

According to the Punjab Home Secretary, the project is designed to help prisoners become productive citizens by equipping them with practical skills.

Training will include trades such as electrical machinery, mobile phone repair, stitching and embroidery, computer literacy, auto mechanics, air conditioning repair, plumbing, and other technical fields. PVTC will also appoint qualified instructors to conduct hands-on sessions inside prisons.

The Home Secretary added that inmates who complete the training and examinations will be awarded official certificates, enabling them to pursue respectable employment opportunities after release.
