SUPARCO predicts Eid-ul-Fitr date for Pakistan

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has indicated that Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to fall on March 21, 2026, based on astronomical observations.

A spokesperson for SUPARCO said the new moon of Shawwal 1447 AH will be born on March 19, 2026, at 6:23 am. At sunset on the same day, the moon’s age will be around 12 hours and 41 minutes.

According to the agency, coastal areas are likely to have a gap of about 28 minutes between sunset and moonset on March 19. However, the spokesperson explained that the chances of sighting the Shawwal moon that evening remain very low.

Based on these calculations, SUPARCO expects the first day of Shawwal 1447 AH to fall on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

The commission also emphasized that the official announcement about the Shawwal moon sighting will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
