Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a major oil and gas discovery at its Baragzai X-01 (Slant) exploratory well in the Nashpa Block, Kohat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange and London Stock Exchange stated that the well is producing 2,280 barrels per day (BPD) of oil and 5.6 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas, with a wellhead flowing pressure of 2,400 psi through a 32/64″ choke.
This marks the first discovery from the Kingriali Formation in the Nashpa Block. OGDCL operates the Nashpa Exploration License with a 65 percent working interest, while joint venture partners Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) hold 30 percent and 5 percent carried interests, respectively.
The Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well was drilled starting on December 24, 2024, reaching a depth of 5,170 meters, targeting the Kingriali Formation. It encountered a 90-meter-thick hydrocarbon-bearing interval of Triassic age. Following promising hydrocarbon shows and open hole wireline log analysis, a successful cased hole drill stem test (DST) was carried out.
OGDCL said the discovery reduces exploration risks for deeper formations in the region and will contribute to closing Pakistan’s energy supply gap by increasing indigenous hydrocarbon reserves. The company noted that the find will benefit OGDCL, its partners, and strengthen the nation’s energy security.
