Pakistan Navy conducts successful test of LY-80(N) missile in North Arabian Sea

Rawalpindi: The Pakistan Navy successfully test-fired the LY-80(N) Surface to Air Missile in the North Arabian Sea, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported on Saturday.

According to ISPR, the exercise demonstrated the Navy’s operational readiness and combat preparedness, highlighting both conventional and unmanned capabilities in line with modern naval warfare requirements.

The drill included the live firing of the LY-80(N) Surface to Air Missile from a Vertical Launching System at extended range, confirming the long-range capabilities of Pakistan Navy’s advanced air defence systems.

The missile successfully engaged and neutralised an aerial target, showcasing the Navy’s strong air defence capabilities.

The exercise also featured the use of a Loitering Munition to engage surface targets. The LM successfully struck and destroyed its targets, highlighting Pakistan Navy’s precision strike abilities.

In addition, successful open-sea trials of an Unmanned Surface Vessel were conducted, marking a major advancement in autonomous naval technology.

The trials validated the vessel’s high-speed performance, durability, manoeuvrability, precise navigation, and resilience in harsh weather. The USV provides a low-risk, high-impact solution with the stealth of a tactical interceptor.

The exercise was witnessed by the Commander Pakistan Fleet, demonstrating the Navy’s capability to employ modern systems effectively.

Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff, praised the officers and personnel of the Pakistan Navy for their professionalism and operational skills.

He reaffirmed that “Pakistan Navy’s resolve to ensure seaward defence of Pakistan and safeguard national maritime interests under all circumstances” remains unwavering, ISPR added.
