PMD forecasts rain, thunderstorms across Pakistan from October 10

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain, thunderstorms, gusty winds and possible hailstorms in several parts of the country from October 10 to 15 due to an approaching westerly weather system.

Several districts of Punjab, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala and Sialkot, are likely to receive rain from October 10 to 14. Thunderstorms, strong winds and isolated hailstorms are also expected in some areas.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may experience occasional rain and strong winds between October 10 and 15. Similar weather conditions are forecast for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, where thunderstorms and possible hailstorms may occur during this period.

In Balochistan, rain is expected in Zhob, Barkhan and Musakhel on October 10 and 11. Meanwhile, most parts of Sindh are likely to remain hot and dry over the next few days.

The Met Office has warned that strong winds, thunderstorms and hailstorms may damage weak buildings, electricity poles, billboards and other vulnerable structures.

Standing crops in the plains of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could also be affected, especially in areas that experience hailstorms and strong winds.

The expected weather system may provide some relief from the ongoing heat, with temperatures likely to fall by 2°C to 4°C in the affected areas.

The PMD has urged farmers to plan their agricultural activities according to the weather forecast and take steps to protect their standing crops from possible damage.

Relevant departments and local authorities have also been asked to stay alert and take the necessary measures to reduce the risk of damage.

People living in the affected areas have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and strong winds. They should take extra care around trees, electricity poles, weak structures and outdoor installations.
