Mushtaq Ahmad lands in Islamabad after release from Israeli detention

Jamaat-e-Islami’s former senator Mushtaq Ahmad returned to Pakistan on Thursday after being released from Israeli custody, arriving in Islamabad from Amman via a private airline.

Supporters warmly welcomed him at Islamabad airport upon his arrival. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed on X that the former senator had been freed and was now safely with the Pakistan Embassy in Amman, Jordan.

“The Embassy stands ready to facilitate his return to Pakistan, in accordance with his wishes and convenience.”

Dar also thanked all the countries that “actively engaged and assisted” Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry in securing Mushtaq Ahmad’s release.

Mushtaq Ahmad Khan had been detained by Israeli forces while aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, as confirmed on October 2. He was leading a five-member Pakistani delegation as part of the mission.

Earlier, the Foreign Office said that through its Embassy in Jordan, it was “working tirelessly to secure the safe evacuation of former Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan,” adding that his return was expected “within the next few days.”

It had further noted that “In accordance with local procedures, Ahmad will be presented before a court.”

The Global Sumud Flotilla, carrying medical and food supplies for Gaza, included over 40 civilian boats with around 500 parliamentarians, lawyers, and activists on board.
