A teenage TikTok content creator, Mehak Shehzadi, was tragically shot and killed by her father in Rawalpindi after she refused to delete her social media account.
The incident took place in the Dhok Chaudhrian area of Takht Pari, within the jurisdiction of the Rawat Police Station.
According to police, the suspect, Ikhlaq Ahmed, insisted that his daughter take down her TikTok profile. When she did not comply, he allegedly opened fire, leaving her fatally injured before fleeing the scene.
At first, the family tried to present the incident as a suicide. However, further investigation and forensic evidence revealed that Mehak had been murdered.
A case has been filed based on a complaint by Head Constable Shahbaz Anjum Kayani, and police have begun efforts to track down the suspect.
Mehak was a student in matric and had a large following on both TikTok and Instagram. Her death has sparked outrage and brought renewed attention to the growing risks faced by young women using social media in Pakistan.
This heartbreaking case comes not long after the murder of another social media figure, Sana Yousuf, in Islamabad.
Sana, a 17-year-old MBBS student with over a million followers, was killed in her home by a man named Omar Hayat after she rejected his proposal.
The suspect in that case was arrested within 20 hours, and the weapon used in the crime was recovered.
