Six dog bite incidents reported in Korangi in one day

Lawmakers from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan have raised serious concerns over the growing number of street dog attacks across Karachi, especially in Quaidabad and nearby localities, where women, children, and even police officials have been injured.

In a joint statement, MQM Haqparast members of the Sindh Assembly blamed the provincial government and municipal bodies for what they described as grave negligence.

They said residents are now trapped between criminal activity and the threat posed by stray dogs. The lawmakers pointed to the recent mauling of a woman and a police officer in Quaidabad as clear evidence of poor administration.

The MQM representatives called for immediate measures, including citywide efforts to control the stray dog population through culling or sterilisation, along with the prompt availability of vaccines at all government hospitals.

They warned that failure to act swiftly would further increase fear and anger among the public. In Bagh Korangi alone, six dog bite incidents were reported in a single day, most of them involving children.

The injured individuals were taken to Indus Hospital, where Rabies Prevention Clinic Manager Dr Aftab Gohar said their wounds were properly cleaned and anti rabies vaccines were given according to medical protocols.

He added that the victims suffered serious injuries to their faces, shoulders, and hands, which raised concerns that the dogs involved may have been rabid.
