ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of National Health has issued a public advisory alerting Islamabad residents about the growing threat of smog during the current dry and cold spell, as reported on Monday.
The ministry noted that smog in the capital can create serious health problems, especially for children, older adults, and people who already suffer from long-term illnesses.
“Particles present in the air during smog can exacerbate respiratory, heart, and eye conditions,” the ministry stated.
People have been advised to limit outdoor activities when smog levels rise, keep doors and windows shut, and avoid travelling to areas where pollution is high. The advisory also stresses avoiding the burning of wood or waste, as it adds to the pollution.
Extra care is recommended for vulnerable groups. Children, elderly citizens, and those dealing with chronic diseases should try to stay indoors as much as they can.
The ministry further suggested wearing masks outside, rinsing eyes with clean water if they become irritated, and ensuring that asthma and respiratory patients keep their medicines close at hand.
Other recommendations include drinking more water, using vehicles less frequently, and supporting government steps aimed at improving air quality.
Residents have also been urged to seek medical help right away if they experience breathing problems, chest discomfort, or eye irritation linked to smog exposure.
