Punjab’s government higher secondary schools are facing a major decline in admissions after matriculation, with enrollment in class 11 falling by around 90 percent.
According to the report, most students who complete their matriculation are now turning to colleges and other educational institutions rather than continuing their studies at government higher secondary schools.
The figures show that only around 56,000 students joined class 11 in government higher secondary schools this year. This is despite more than 600,000 students being enrolled in class 10 across government schools in Punjab.

More than 550,000 students reportedly sought admission to various colleges, resulting in a significant fall in enrollment at government higher secondary schools.
The declining admissions have raised concerns about the growing challenges faced by Punjab’s public education system and the future of government higher secondary schools in the province.
