Punjab cracks down on restaurants and wedding halls

The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has stepped up its crackdown on tax evasion, carrying out inspections in multiple cities and seizing sales records from several restaurants, cafés, and marquees in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, and Vehari.

Officials said the teams found major irregularities in tax filings, with many businesses collecting sales tax from customers but failing to deposit it in the government treasury.

A PRA spokesperson stated that records showing discrepancies were confiscated, and system access was suspended for businesses not linked to the e-IMS platform. Strict penalties will be imposed on those submitting false or incomplete data.

He added that withholding collected tax is a serious offense under PRA laws, resulting in heavy fines, and reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to transparency and full compliance with the e-IMS system.
